Relinquish Your Worries

from destin

Got any worries in your life right now? Whether it is the kids, the budget, the job or even the small stuff, each day is filled with opportunities to worry. It takes a deliberate effort to turn our thought patterns in a new and faith-filled direction. I like what Charles Spurgeon wrote about worry:

“Why do you worry? What possible use does your worrying serve? You are aboard such a large ship that you would be unable to steer even if your Captain placed you at the helm. You would never even be able to adjust the sails, yet you worry as if you were the captain or the helmsman of the vessel. Be quiet, dear soul – God is the Master!”

I like Spurgeon’s boat analogy. It reminds me that I’m not the one steering the ship – and what a relief that is! God is not only master, He is with us. I think about Jesus in the boat with the disciples as the wind and the waves overwhelmed their vessel. Jesus was with them the entire time, yet He allowed the storms to come to show that His power is greater than our storms.

Spurgeon went on to write:

“Do you think all the commotion and the uproar of this life is evidence that God has left His throne? He has not! His mighty steeds rush furiously ahead, and His chariots are the storms themselves. But the horses have bridles, and it is God who holds the reins, guiding the chariots as He wills!”

Our God is still the Master! Instead of trying to hold on to the worries, hold on to Him. Remember His unfailing love for you and listen to His voice that continually says, “Don’t be afraid”  (Matthew 14:27.

Do You Know Your Neighbor?

Have you ever thought about the transformation that could take place in our culture if Christians reached out and loved the people whom God has placed right next door?  In His sermon on the Mount, Jesus told believers that they are the light of the world. Yet as believers it’s easy to huddle together at our churches and enjoy the fellowship with our own group, while ignoring the people God has placed around us both at home and at work. Positive Woman Connection

We had a tremendous time this past month at Positive Woman Connection. As we journey through the book of Colossians together, our lesson this month focused on three powerful verses.

Colossians 3:15-17

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

We talked about how the world’s peace is different than the peace of Christ.  We not only have peace with God through Christ, but as believers we can have a peace that passes understanding as we give our cares and worries to God through prayer. We also experience peace with each other as we allow Christ’s peace to referee our hearts.  As a result of our study, here are some questions to ponder.

Am I allowing Christ’s peace to rule my heart or do I allow my circumstances to rule my emotions?

Am I letting the word of Christ dwell richly in my life through reading it, studying it, memorizing it?

Am I allowing a thankful attitude to permeate my life?

Am I honoring God in what I do and say?

Mark your calendars for next month at PWC. The topic will be “How to get Along with those Closest to You”

Fellowship of Women

“Creating a network of support takes time, but it’s time well spent. While there are some friendships that can sustain a lack of contact, most important relationships require an investment of time and attention. Nurture your friendships…” Life Lessons for Women, Stephanie Marston

What a joy it is to join together with other women in the body of Christ.  I encourage you to seek out fellowship with other Godly women.  That’s what we do at Positive Woman Connection. We enjoy a good lunch, enjoy great fellowship and enjoy the blessing of learning from God’s word.  This month our topic is:

Tools for the Times – Experiencing Peace through Difficulties in life.

The lesson is based on Colossians 3, as we examine what it means to allow the Peace of Christ to rule our hearts in every aspect of our lives.  I hope you will join us, and bring a friend.  I will be giving a gift to each person who brings a first-timer to the study.  Come and be blessed.

Sweet Fellowship

“As soon as the love of God was shed abroad in my soul, I loved all, of whatsoever denomination, who loved the Lord Jesus in sincerity of heart.” George Whitefield

Karol, Donna, and Sharon

This past week, several of us from Positive Woman Connection had the joy of going to the Women In Christian Media event in Nashville.  It was a wonderful time to encourage and fellowship with each other as well as to hear great messages which strengthened our hearts.  You can read more about some of their stories on my Thrive blog (ThriveDontSimplySurvive.wordpress.com)

We need each other in the body of Christ!  As I was in Nashville, I was reminded of how significant it is the have dear friends who build each other up in the Lord.  The writer of Hebrews said, “Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near.”

Now more than ever we need to come together in encouragement and love.  Positive Woman Connection is a point of meeting, where we can truly encourage each other.  I hope you are planning to join us for our March meeting.  Put it on your calendar now and ask the Lord to show you who you need to invite.  We all need a positive dose of encouragement from God’s word and fellowship with one another.
